Description for Reply® Solo Handheld Wireless Base Station (Model WRS960X)
The Reply® Solo Model WRS960X is a compact, handheld base station that processes
multiple choice responses from a Reply® cordless response system’s keypads using the
Reply® (Worldwide) communications format. Reply® Solo is a unique product because a
separate PC and polling software are not required to conduct an audience polling session.
Reply® Solo allows audience response activities to be conducted in virtually any location –
indoors or outdoors – without the need for electricity, computers, and special projection
equipment. However, if those additional devices are available, Reply® Solo’s capabilities and
value increase. A Reply® Solo solution is intended as a supplement to, not a replacement for,
traditional group audience response methods that commonly employ a PC, polling software,
and large format display devices during large group and/or complex polling activities. Each
audience response method serves its purpose…and the purpose of the Reply® Solo system is
to take interaction anywhere.

Grid shows whether individual keypads responded, and if so, each one’s response selection
and its correct/incorrect status.
Questionnaire results are stored in the Handheld Base Station’s memory. They may also be
saved to a USB stick**.
Saved results may be transferred to a PC for further analysis and reporting functions by
available software utility programs*.
RF Technology

Two-way radio design uses eligible license-free/license-exempt frequencies to:
Process user inputs from Wireless Keypads.
Send control information to Wireless Keypads.
Transmit acknowledgments of entries to each keypad.
Employs a Fleetwood-engineered 2.4 GHz frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS)
transceiver.
FHSS offers excellent range, immunity to interference, and security.
Communicates using a patented and proprietary radio protocol.
Creates a secure communications network between the Base Station and its associated
Wireless Keypads.
Wireless Keypad user entries are acknowledged when received by the Base Station. This
message acknowledgment is just one of the many patented features of Reply® systems.
Permits Reply® systems to operate reliably in the presence of other RF devices (WLANs,
PDAs, phones, etc.).
Integrated error checking discriminates system signals from all other RF traffic to ensure data
accuracy and enhance security.
15 channel identities are available to provide installation flexibility.
High performance internal antenna is protected by the enclosure.
Range

System is designed for 300 foot range during open air operation.
Room geometry and RF propagation characteristics will influence actual range experienced.
Speed

50 keypads can be polled in ½ second.
Power Supply

Powered by 3 x AAA replaceable alkaline batteries (not included).
Up to 40 hours of continuous operation.
Battery level is indicated on display.
Communications Security

A proprietary response verification protocol integral to the radio design provides a high degree
of signal security.
Frequency hopping and proprietary data communications are additional deterrents to
clandestine interception.
Scalability

Firmware resides in high performance microprocessor chips that can be reprogrammed to
facilitate easy upgrade during the life of the product.
Adding keypads to an existing system requires them to be set to unused addresses. No
change is required on the Base Station when adding keypads of the same channel.
Compliance and Patents

FCC, IC, CE certified. Call for details regarding these and other regulatory certifications.
U.S. Patent Nos. Re. 35,449 and 5,724,357. European Patent No. EP 0 697 773. Other US
